The Broncos: Leaders of the Northern Herd

The return of coach Wayne Bennett to the Brisbane Broncos has brought with it the NRL North conference title.

The Brisbane Broncos didn’t take long to find their rhythm in 2015. Once they did, they didn’t stop improving. With a halves partnership in its first year of development and a host of young talent, the Broncos galloped to the top of the NRL North conference table and refused to leave.

Wayne Bennett’s return to Red Hill saw the Broncos focus on a renewed defensive vigour (ranked third in the NRL) before dominating opponents with their impressive forward pack. It allowed Ben Hunt and Anthony Milford to progress into one of the most exciting halves combinations in the league.

Best Win: the Broncos are historically affected by the State of Origin period, but their ability to win during this passage of the season shone through in 2015, winning eight in a row at a time when a lot of their star players were on duty for Queensland. Travelling to Melbourne in round 15, four days after Origin II, the Broncos put on one of the best defensive efforts of the season to defeat the Storm 14-12.

Best streak: 8

Conference Record: 5-1
